The Schuler Program equips bright, motivated youth with the support they need to gain access to and succeed at highly selective colleges and beyond. Writing from thirteen schools located in the greater Chicago area in Lake and Cook Counties of Illinois, scholars reflect on their academic experiences, cultural exposures, college applications processes, and more.
On Tuesday, College scholars,
alumni, and SSP staff came out to the annual Winter Party at Mickey Finn’s this
year. The evening began with appetizers and a presentation by Harvard Ph. D.
candidate, Anthony Jack. Anthony spoke to scholars about his experiences as a
first-generation college student and highlighted some of the skills and
strengths he accrued throughout his childhood that helped him through his
undergraduate years at Amherst and into his graduate studies at Harvard. His
simple message highlighted his belief that there is nothing more beautiful than
someone who believes in him- or her- self. If you weren't able to make it to the party, you can catch Anthony's speech here:
Following Anthony’s presentation, scholars
enjoyed catching up over pizza and cake, raffle prizes, and dancing. Visit our Facebook page to see the whole Winter Party album!
